Ningxia Wolfberry:
King of Nature's Calcium
Rich Foods
An essential "macro" mineral, calcium is necessary for such
things as blood clotting, muscle contraction, enzyme reactions, cellular communication
and skin differentiation. It also gives bones and teeth their strength. Tooth
enamel is 95% calcium. A deficincy of calcium may result in a lack of bone
mineralization contributing to rickets in children, osteomalacia and osteoporosis.
It is especially important during periods of growth, such as childhood, during
pregnancy and when breast-feeding.
With more calcium than cottege cheese, the Ningxia wolfberry
is an exceptional source of vegetarian calcium that can contribute to weight
loss and reduced body fat (see
study). But not all sources of calcium promote
weight loss.
Clinical
trials have shown that boys and girls who drink the most milk tend
to pack on the fat. The evidence suggests that calcium can indeed trigger weight
loss—as long as the source is not dairy.
Balanced Berry
Balancing calcium and magnesium levels in the diet is critical
because the two have opposite effects on cells: magnesium relaxes muscles while
calcium contracts them. The same applies to blood vessels. Most
nutritionists consider the ideal ratio for dietary calcium and magnesium to
by 1:1, with equal parts of each. The Ningxia wolfberry is one of the few foods
to have an almost perfectly balance magnesium and calcium ratio.
